Thanks to a pair of ice ages that molded the region’s landscape, retreating glaciers left behind gently undulating hills and valleys and a handful of narrow, deep Finger Lakes. Tucked between Seneca and Owasco Lakes, Cayuga Lake is the longest (40 miles) and one of the deepest (400+ feet). Rivulets and streams continue to carve dramatic gorges and waterfalls on their way down to the lakeshore. Their testament to nature’s power greets us every day, in local parks and in our own backyards. There’s plenty of opportunity for swimming, sunning, and sailing, as well as trolling for bass, fly fishing for freshwater salmon, and ice fishing for perch and pike. Many of our scenic waterfalls provided power for our first industries – mills of all sorts – and the lake and its tributaries continue to shape life here.
